Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then found many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the attack rendered him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
